17.1 Who should I contact if I have questions about hiring personnel for my research program?

17.2 How do I hire a research assistant
A research assistant is an individual who may be an undergraduate student, non-Laurier graduate student, or non student, employed for the purpose of assisting in research programs. Refer to the Hiring a Research Assistant page for more information.
17.3 How do I hire a project coordinator
A project coordinator is a position that is administrative in nature, that coordinate the research rather than participate/assist with the research. Refer to the Hiring a Project Coordinator page for more information.
17.4 How do I hire a Laurier graduate research assistant?
A Laurier graduate research assistant is an individual who is currently enrolled as a Laurier graduate student, employed for the purpose of assisting Principal Investigators (PIs) in their academic research or an academic entity’s own research project, for the academic and professional gain of the researcher or research entity. 17.5 How do I hire a research associate?
A research associate holds an advanced degree, normally a PhD or postgraduate professional degree or equivalent. The field of research that is to be carried out contributes, by the way of their academic expertise, to the project directed by the Principal Investigator (PI). The appointee carries out research responsibilities with a high degree of independence, and is appointed to a term employment position at Laurier. 17.6 How do I hire a postdoctoral fellow?
A postdoctoral fellow holds a doctoral degree and, under the supervision of a Laurier faculty member, is engaged in a temporary period of research and/or scholarly training. The purpose of the appointment is to acquire professional skills needed to pursue an academic or research career. Refer to the Hiring a Postdoctoral Fellow page for more information.
17.7 How do I make non-faculty appointments
17.7.1 How can I host a domestic academic visitor at Laurier?
As a Laurier faculty member you may host domestic academic visitors on campus. Planning is required when planning to host colleagues, researchers, expert knowledge holders, students or visitors in your department. Depending on the nature of the visit and relationship, there are different pathways to come to Laurier. Refer to the Domestic Academic Visitors page for more information.
17.7.2 How can I host an international academic visitor at Laurier?
As a Laurier faculty member you may host an international academic visitor on campus. Planning is required when connecting to host colleagues, researchers, expert knowledge holders, students or visitors to your department. Depending on the nature of the visit and relationship, there are different pathways to come to Laurier. International visitors to the university – whether they are receiving pay or not – may require a work permit. Refer to the International Academic Visitors page for more information.
17.7.3 How do I host a Scholar at Risk?
The Visiting Researcher - Scholars at Risk Program at Wilfrid Laurier University is established to support scholars who are facing threats to their life, liberty or academic career, and/or have been forced to leave their academic position because of such threats. The program is fully remote and will allow scholars to remotely re-engage with academia after being pushed outside the university space.
The Visiting Researcher - Scholars at Risk Program will assist Laurier faculty and students create and strengthen opportunities for research and collaborative engagement with scholars in areas of mutual interest. Scholars eligible for this program will have a Visiting Researcher appointment. More information can be found here.
17.7.4 What is Laurier’s adjunct faculty policy?
To widen and enrich the University community and to enhance the expertise available to faculty and students within an academic unit or research or other University academic centre on a continuing basis, Adjunct Faculty appointments may be granted to persons within or without the University who carry out on-going responsibilities related to research, academic programming, and/or professional academic activities.
